Jacob with Lurie-Houghton Telescope Lens Blanks
Here's my son Jacob with the two lens blanks that will be
ground and polished into the positive
and negative lenses that make up the
corrector lens. The corrector is
used to eliminate the spherical and coma aberrations from the spherical
primary mirror used in the Lurie-Houghton
design. The lenses and
primary mirror will be ground and polished by the well known Arizona
telescope maker Mike Spooner. Mounted through the center hole of the left
lens blank is the sleeve that will hold the
secondary mirror assembly that my friend
Cullen Bennett machined for me in his home based machine shop. This photo
was taken 9 December 1999 with an Olympus D-600L digital camera.
