This national park is an interesting memorial to four of greatest presidents of the United States of America. It was a monumental undertaking by Gutzon Borglum who designed the sculpture and was in charge of the operation that created it. During the planning and construction from 1927 through 1941, adjustments had to be made to the setback of some of the heads due to weaknesses in the rock. Another major modification was the position of Jefferson who was originally going to be to the left of Washington.
