No trip across the Colorado river between Kingman, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada is complete without a visit and tour of the Hoover Dam. This was one of human kinds greatest engineering projects in the early 1930's. The new visitor center shown in this photograph was built in 1995. It's the starting point of tours which still includes a visit to the old visitor center. On top of the concrete cylinder is an observation deck.
In the background are the cantilever transmission towers on the Nevada side of the river that are used to carry electricity up from the power plant at the bottom of the dam. The vertical tower among them is the Nevada side of the cable crane used during construction. It's still used to lower and raise equipment that's too large for the road and tunnels leading to the base of the dam. I used my Minolta DiMAGE A1 digital camera for this photograph.
