Gray-tailed Tattlers

PHOTO

I was at the beach in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California when I saw a large flock of gray-tailed tattlers walking near the edge of the water. I kept an eye on them and in an instant they all took to flight at virtually same the time. I took a few photos of them as the first flew toward my general direction and then they turned around towards the south when I took this photograph. It was amazing how they all turned simultaneously as if being controlled by some external force. This photograph only shows about half of the flock.
