Almost every time I go to the Phoenix zoo, the animals are active and interesting. When I went this time, a burrowing owl was looking out of this pipe when a second one appeared right behind it and forced its head between the pipe and the first owl. After a few moments, the first owl moved out of its way and the second owl just stared at me. Most likely it was looking at its own reflection in the large UV blocking filter on the front of my lens.
I used my Canon EOS 20D digital camera with an exposure of 1/80 of a second at f/5.6. The camera was set to ISO 100 in RAW mode. The lens was a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM at the 80mm position. Adobe Photoshop CS was used for the RAW conversion and image processing. Photograph by Rick Scott.
