Red Mountain, AZ

PHOTO

Arizona has many volcanoes and Red Mountain is one of the cinder cone variety. About one third of the mountain has eroded away to create a narrow passage that leads to the inside of this ancient volcano. The scenery inside is similar to the views at Bryce Canyon National Park but on a smaller scale. The many layers of rock and ash that were deposited over time to build up this mountain are very visible in the walls of the canyon and can be seen in this photograph. Photographed by Rick Scott with an Olympus OM-3 camera and scanned with a Nikon Coolscan LS-10 scanner. Adobe Photoshop was used to prepare this image.
