Monument Valley Tribal Park in the Navajo Nation is always a great place to visit. It's one of those places on planet earth that is recognized the world over as representing "The Desert". The buttes and spires of this park are the basis for the generic desert landscape that many of us remember from the old Roadrunner cartoons. I took this photograph of Mitchell butte just before the sun disappeared behind the mountains while it was setting. The light was fading rapidly, so I had to work quickly to set up the tripod and camera.
