Guitar Lake, Sequoia National Park, CA

PHOTO

Guitar Lake is one of the high mountain lakes near Mt. Whitney. It's at the western base of the mountain at an elevation of 11,600 feet. I camped here on the third night of a five day backpacking trip to Mt. Whitney. Even though the lake is at such a high elevation, in August, the water was warm enough to go swimming. The mountains in the distance is the Kaweah Peaks Ridge. The highest mountain just left of center is Mt. Kaweah with Red Spur leading off toward the left. Photographed by Rick Scott with an Olympus OM-3 camera and scanned with a Nikon Coolscan LS-10 scanner. Adobe Photoshop was used to prepare this image.
