Tri-colored Bumble Bee

PHOTO

My children and I were exploring Basin Meadow near the north rim of the Grand Canyon when they started running from a bumble bee that was flying near them. After a short while, they were the ones chasing the bee around. When I caught up with them, they pointed out the unusual colors of the bee and I started photographing it. That was an exercise in frustration as the bee rarely stopped for very long. Later we looked up the bee in a book at the visitor center and learned it was a tri-colored bumble bee.
