Gateway Arch, St. Louis, Missouri

Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri is a monument to those who traveled west to settle the United States west of the Mississippi river. It is 630 feet (192 m) tall with an observation deck at the top. It is located in the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial which is part of the National Park System. Gateway Arch is not only the tallest man-made monument in the United States, it is also the tallest arch in world. It was built from February 1963 through October 1965 and opened to the public in June 1967. The skin of the arch is stainless steel.
