Mosaic Canyon, near Stovepipe Wells, is an interesting and fun canyon to hike. As you can see from this photograph, the canyon has beautifully sculpted and smooth walls. If you hike far enough into the canyon, you're also rewarded with some great panoramic vistas of the northern parts of Death Valley itself.
Beacuse of slightly overcast skies and no direct sunlight when I took this photograph, I decided to only use the red channel of the RGB image to make this black & white rendition of the photograph. The result is similar to using a deep red filter with B&W film. For this photograph I used my Olympus OM-3 camera with Kodachrome 64 film and scanned it with my Nikon LS-2000 film scanner.
